Ombré

30 Jun

Hey tastemakers, this one’s for you! Ombré, with its gorgeous slow fade from dark to light, has found its way from fashion to hair color and ended up smack on your lips! It’s not just a trendy look though, it’s actually a really pretty effect that highlights your top lip, bringing all of the attention there. And there’s something a little effortless and less “done up” about not having your bottom lip as dark as your top lip. Anyway, I just wanted to share the easiest way to re-create it yourself.

  1. Paint your top lip with any lip color.
  2. Smack your lips together to press the lip creme unto the top half of the bottom lip.
  3. Smear the bottom edge with a Q-tip.
  4. Paint the top lip again so it’s one shade darker.

That’s it! You can finish it with a coat of clear gloss if you love the look of a shiny lip.

Oh My DIY: Lip Smoothie

21 Jun

Dry + cracked lips ruin how lipstick looks. And because of recycled air, flying, dehydration and just life, unfortunately all of us are victims! So I’m sharing exactly what I have my clients do before I apply their makeup. All you need is a disposable mascara wand (or toothbrush if you don’t have one), lip balm and a tissue.

1. Dip the wand into the balm to pick up a decent amount onto the bristles then apply it directly on your lips (Just like in the image, I started with my bottom lip).
2. Scrub back and forth, up and down and in small circular motions in the same fashion you would brush your teeth. Really work on the flaky areas until the loose skin gently breaks off.
3. Wrap a tissue around your finger and remove any flaky residue.

That’s it! If you want to stay on top of it and keep your lips polished and crack-free all year round, every time you brush your teeth, before you’re done, brush your lips with your toothbrush as well.

Very Berry!

1 Jun

For those of you concerned about what chemicals we’re putting in and on our bodies, you can’t get more natural than this homemade berry lip stain! I just totally love it because it adds the perfect “just-bitten” hint of color to fake that Snow White luscious lip!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 Blackberries (for their bright berry color)
  • 1 Raspberry (to get the feminine pink color)
  • 3 Pomegranate Seeds (to achieve the vibrant red color)
  • 1/2 teaspoon edible oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil is good to use!)
  •  A small bowl + spoon (or mortar + pestle if you have)
  • Fork or sifter to drain
  • A small 5-gram Pot/Jar with screw top from any craft store

STEPS:

  1. Mash the blackberries and raspberry in the bowl thoroughly with the back of your spoon.
  2. Add the pomegranate juice into the mixture by individually squeezing them between your thumb and index fingers over the bowl.
  3. Pour the olive oil into the bowl and stir everything together with your spoon.
  4. Finish by draining the liquid from the mixture into your small portable jar.

HOW TO APPLY: Use your fingers, a lip brush or a Q-tip. It’ll only be good for a few days so refrigerate it for it to last longer. Have fun with it and also try different fruits! You can play with the ratios of each fruit to customize your desired shade but you’ll get the most color payoff from the blackberries.

Trendsetter Go-getter: Flatforms

17 May

“Huh? What on Earth are flatforms?”  They aren’t your typical platform heels that make you wonder how people could balance on them. Flatforms are more conventional since the heels on these comfy shoes are flat that can save you from all those “Oops!” moments trying to stand on sky-high heels. To all the girls out there having a hard time with heels, these are your ultimate lifesavers!

Wear them on a casual day running errands, or use it to pair your new LBD (Little Black Dress) for a semi-formal event. Flatforms are very versatile. Some of these shoes even have different patterns for the heels! Never get scared to sport this new trend!

Rock your high-heeled loafers!

30 Apr

High-heeled loafers are still on trend and is becoming more popular in the local fashion scene. Different styles of loafer heels have emerged in the market! Fashion bloggers have incorporated the preppy footwear into their wardrobe and tried different looks with the high-heeled loafers.

Here are some tips on how to wear high-heeled loafers:

  1. Pair them with a full preppy ensemble and make a statement. Geek chic is always in, and pairing loafers with collared button-downs and cardigans is never a platitude. If you want to opt for a more casual look, pair classic brown loafer heels with denim jeans. Try pairing beige loafer heels with a pleated skirt and mesmerize your date with how incredibly polished you look!
  2. Add a bit of spunk by opting for edgier loafer heels. Animal-print ones or ones that come in bright hues will definitely catch a lot of attention.
  3. Consider your leg and foot shape before anything else. Loafer heels with ankle straps can give you the illusion of shorter legs while ones that have pointy tips may help elongate your legs.

Shining, Shimmering, Splendid!

Image from The Beauty Department

Our skin needs a little help after a long dry winter! After giving your body a good buff with our D.I.Y. brown sugar scrub, add a little shimmer to your lotion to get that perfect glow (without having to spend any money!).

TOOLS

  • Your favorite lotion
  • Small jar of gold loose mica mineral pigment (you can also crush up an old gold or pearl pressed eyeshadow to make it loose)
  • A mixing bowl or tumbler, chopstick + spoon
  • An empty travel-sized jar or bottle

STEPS

  1. Combine 4 parts lotion with ½ teaspoon gold shimmer (or measure by sprinkling the shimmer until desired shade is achieved).
  2. Stir with chopstick until color is consistent and then, direct it towards one side for scooping.
  3. Spoon out your creation and transfer it into the jar.

You can do this with coconut oil, tanning oils and many sunscreens. Please share any of your ideas + potions too!
